Wilpattu Sri Lanka

The Wilpattu National Park is one of the oldest and largest parks of its kind in the island and is a region of enormous bio-diversity. The park is located 30 km west of Anuradhapura and 26 km north of Puttalam (approximately 180 km north of Colombo), covering an area of 1,317 square kilometers (131, 693 hectares). Approximately 60 lakes nourish the luxuriant landscape, home to over 31 species of mammals like the elephant, sloth bear, leopard, water buffalo, sambhur, spotted deer, mongoose, and shrew, to name just a few. There are also a large variety of birds and reptiles, including migratory birds and several indigenous and endangered species.
