The area formerly known as the Yala East National Park has now received an identity of its own. The parks most conspicuous feature is the prevalence of numerous bodies of water, with over 20 lagoons and the KumbukkanOya, nourishing a lush landscape, renowned for its brilliant birdlife. From April to July tens of thousands of birds migrate to the Kumana swamp area, giving the landscape a vibrant hue. With species like the Pintail snipes flying anywhere from 9,000 kilometers to 11,000 kilometers, from as far north as Siberia.
