Bandarawela is the second-largest town in the Badulla district and is an important center for trade and agriculture in the region. Excellent whether all year round, an interesting natural landscape with a diverse offering and a friendly local community make Bandarawela an excellent locality from which to explore the rest of the area. The traditional marketplace in the city has superb local produce and during its busier moments, makes for a colorful, animated and surreal experience.
Places of interest include the ancient DhowaBuddhist rock temple, which is a heritage site and other historic monuments like St. Anthony’s, a Roman Catholic church and the local Methodist church, which offers an interesting perspective into the island’s eventful past and multicultural present.
