Wide open expanses, sparsely populated beaches and calm, warm waters with the deepest shade of blue, make Tangalle the ultimate ocean-side escape. Being the last major population center before Hambantota, endows the city plenty of old world charm and indeed in places it seem like a landscape forgotten by time. Life in Tangalle moves at its own dreamy pace and the town offers visitors a variety of accommodation options, from opulent villas adorned for indulgence, to small budget guest-houses on the beach and just about everything in between.
Tangalle’s location also makes it an ideal base from which to explore surrounding areas of interest, including the Yala National Park, which is roughly 1.5 hours away, UdaWalawe National Park is around 1 hour away and Bundala National Park just 40 Minutes away. The beaches at Rekawa and Kahandamodara are ideal for turtle watching, especially from January to July, when the magnificent creatures come ashore to lay their eggs.
