Bolgoda is the island’s largest fresh water lake and is made up of the Bolgoda North Lake and the Bolgoda South Lake, both of which cover an extensive area of over 400 square kilometers, as it meanders through the quiet, leafy suburbs. The Bolgoda Lake departs into the sea at Panadura estuary on the south west coast, an area well worth exploring for its scenic vistas and biodiversity. Scattered along the shores are several excellent bungalows, villas and guest houses, private and secluded, yet in proximity to the city. Boat rides are an excellent way to explore the area, with several islands on the lake offering interesting points of exploration.
